Invite-Only Event from Wilson Premier Baseball – Features Nation’s Best Clubs and D1 Prospects
CHICAGO, IL (Sept. 6, 2018) – More than 50 teams from 24 of the most elite travel baseball clubs in America will face off in the third-annual Wilson Premier Classic September 14–17 in West Palm Beach, Fla., at the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals Spring Training complex. The invitation-only baseball tournament will feature national championship travel ball teams, D1 prospects and projected top draft picks.
It’s the premier tournament for young players to showcase their skills and abilities in front of scouts while competing for a championship. In just two years since the inaugural event in 2016, the WPC boasts eight first-round draft picks, more than 350 D1 college commits and 22 Perfect Game All-Americans. Defending champions from the 2017 Classic in Peoria, Ariz., include Canes Baseball (2019 and 2020 divisions) and BPA (2021).
“The Classic is the marquee tournament in the Wilson Premier event program and has quickly established itself as a must-attend event for high-level prospects, college recruiters and pro scouts,” Wilson Premier Baseball National Director Matthew Bliven said. “The most talented organizations and players across the country from the 2019, 2020 and 2021 graduating classes all playing at one central location is extremely desirable to talent evaluators everywhere. The rosters are full of future professional and collegiate baseball players, and the caliber of talent is unmatched.”
Major League Baseball® (MLB) scouts and college coaches from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC will be among those in West Palm Beach to see how these players fare against top-level competition. Rosters feature highly regarded prospects like Hunter Barco, Brett Baty, Cade Doughty and Anthony Volpe, potential top 2019 MLB Draft picks according to Baseball America and other outlets. “The Wilson Premier Classic has quickly gained a reputation for hosting the best amateur talent in the country”, says Jim Hendry, former Chicago Cubs General Manager and current New York Yankees Special Assistant. “We prioritize evaluating the highest caliber players in the most competitive environments and the Classic is one of the few places we can do that on a consistent basis. Everything about Wilson Premier is first class from the facilities to the detailed and accurate player information we get from the staff. It’s a great event.”
In total, the Wilson Premier Classic will feature approximately 1,200 players from powerhouse clubs featuring sought-after players including East Cobb Baseball, Canes Baseball, San Diego Show, Dirtbags Baseball and the Dallas Patriots, among others.
All participating teams are sponsored by Wilson Baseball’s family of brands – DeMarini®, Louisville Slugger®, EvoShield® and Wilson®. The four brands will showcase equipment and products for participating teams and create a best-in-class experience for those who attend.
“The Classic serves as the perfect opportunity to highlight the very best of what it looks like to work with Wilson and our industry-leading family of brands,” said Rob Partin, Grassroots Marketing Manager for Wilson Baseball. “We feature special and unique activation opportunities typically reserved only for our professional players, ranging from custom fittings for EvoShield protective products to an on-site Glove Care Center manned by legendary Wilson ball glove Master Craftsman Shigeaki Aso. Players, coaches and scouts are treated to a one-of-a-kind experience they can’t get anywhere outside an MLB clubhouse. It truly is a celebration of partnership for our most valued stakeholders.”
All the teams playing in the Wilson Premier Classic are highly ranked and are either DeMarini Platinum and Gold Squads or Louisville Slugger Prime and Authentic Clubs players. Trophies for members of each of the three championship teams will be custom gloves from Wilson, the Official Glove of Major League Baseball®.
